Minigames

Travel through the Subway: Search
If power was not restored to the Subway, it's time to search through the tunnels again to find the best route to the Cathedral.

Success: The MCs find the path quickly. Each one of them may stash a card.
First consequences: The MCs find the way to the Cathedral. No other effect.
Second consequences: The MCs reach the Cathedral, but they're tired. Take a one-action penalty on the Hacking minigame there.
Third consequences: The MCs reach the Cathedral but are disoriented. They each discard their best two cards when they reload for the first fight in the Cathedral.
Final consequences: The MCs are unable to find the path to the Cathedral. The players must spend 2 Patience to check a strategy guide.

Enter the Cathedral: Hack
The Cathedral is sealed off from the outside world. The MCs must break through its passwords and defenses in order to gain access.

Success: The MCs hack open the doors quickly. Each one of them may stash a card.
First consequences: The MCs gain access to the Cathedral. No other effects.
Second consequences: The MCs access the Cathedral, but are glitched when they enter. Each MC discards their best card when they reload for the first fight there.
Third consequences: The MCs access the Cathedral, but are glitched when they enter. Each of them is Confused at the beginning of the first fight there.
Final consequences: The MCs are unable to gain access to the Cathedral. The players must use Patience to reload.

Mobs

Off-By-One: 70 HP, Dmg 20, Range 0, Acc 4+, Move Auto/1, Evade 8+, Resist Q+
Special attack: Inflict the Silenced status instead of dealing damage.
Special ability: Every card played against Off-By-One has its value increased by 1. Kings go to Ace, Aces wrap around to 2.
Note: very high Evade score.
AI: Move toward the MCs with the highest damage and attack them.

Chug and Churn: 150 HP, Dmg 30, Range 0, Acc 6+, Move Auto/1, Evade K+, Resist 10+
Special ability: MCs in the same area as Chug and Churn can play one less card per round, to a minimum of 1.
Status: Starts Armored, with the status byte locked.
AI: Move up to the Sorcerer or Gunslinger and attack them.

Buffer Overrun: 70 HP, Dmg 15, Range 1, Acc 4+, Move Auto/3, Evade Q+, Resist Q+
Special ability: Buffer Overrun is immune to Push effects.
AI: Move into the Hacker's area, attack, and move out. If the Hacker is downed, choose a new target randomly.

Fritz: 100 HP, Dmg 20, Range 0, Acc 4+, Move Auto/2, Evade J+, Resist Q+
Special attack: Disarm. On an Ace, Fritz deals no damage and does not Latch On, but disarms its target. Their damage drops to zero and they cannot attack. They can spend 6 Move Points to recover the weapon.
Special ability: Latch on. Once Fritz hits you, you must spend an extra 2 Move Points to move out of each area. Any moves you take bring Fritz with you. Ends when Fritz is downed, is pushed, or moves away from you.
AI: Go after every character who moves. Latch on and stay there. Keep biting.

Boss: Vortex Glitch

4001 HP
Move 5 / 10, Evade 10+, Resist J+
Attack: Crash. Dmg 30, Range 0, Acc 4+
Alternate attack: Swarm of Bugs. Dmg 20, Range 2, Acc 5+. Area attack.
Special attack: Swap. Switch the positions of two MCs. No damage.
Special attack: Halt and Catch Fire. All processes (including allies) in the same battlefield area take 30 Fire damage and get the Burning status.

No special status. Vortex Glitch's status byte is locked.
Hackable values:

  • The damage rating for Swarm of Bugs.
  • The accuracy for Crash.
  • The damage type for Halt and Catch Fire.
  • Whether or not Vortex Glitch counts as an area instead of a mob. If it's an area, it can't move or attack, but can't take damage. Its area status byte becomes unlocked and any status it gains as an area keeps the same number when it becomes a mob again.

Special Ability: Spawn. At the beginning of each round, the top card of discard determines the type of creature spawned. Heart: Off-By-One. Diamond: Churn and Chug. Spade: Buffer Overrun. Club: Fritz. Face cards: spawn two instead of one. Joker or empty discard pile: One of each.

Encountered with no extra foes, but can summon them with above abilities.

Reward

After defeating the Vortex Glitch, all MCs have their Max HP and Damage raised once.

After talking with each other about what they've seen here, what they've done for the Resistance so far, and perhaps other topics, each MC has the opportunity to gain a new Interrupt Charge condition. They may, if they so desire, replace an existing condition with the one listed below.

  • Protagonist: Charge your Interrupt when you do something to interrupt another character's screen time.
  • Wallflower: Charge your Interrupt when you rescue an MC from a dangerous situation through your own efforts. You can use this in combat, but only once per battle.
  • Sidekick: Charge your Interrupt when you sass a leader of the Resistance or the Arba. You can use this in combat, but only once per battle.
  • Comic Relief: Charge your Interrupt when you say something obvious. Charge twice if it was something no one else noticed.
  • Badass: Charge your Interrupt when you refer to your love life in a wistful or vulnerable manner.
  • Mysterious Stranger: Charge your Interrupt when you give another MC some "tough love" and get them to act.

Quest item: Rational Key, received just before fighting the Vortex Glitch.

Miniature: If the players have 1 Patience left at the Cathedral, they can spend it to find the item "1/30 Scale Samael"
